I Ran Out of Excuses Not to Blog, So I Built Something That Revolves Around Me

I want to talk about the project I've been working on for the last couple of weeks. It started with this idea that I wanted the world to revolve around me, and I wanted the tasks that I normally would take the time to sit down and do to come to me when they needed to be done, or when I needed to be reminded of them. Instead of just having a reminder, I wanted to knock out the task as it was happening.

So I started to think about the things in my life that I needed to automate or that I needed to make better. One of the things that kept coming up was podcasting, and blogging. It's something I used to do a lot. It's something I used to take the time to do, and something I thoroughly enjoy.

What did the old process actually look like?

I would sit down and read the news for hours at a time so I would be kept up on current events. I would research what was going on. I would pay attention to all the social media channels online and read what my friends were doing, and comprise my own take of what was going on. Then I would write it out, or I would think it out, or I would write down notes. I would sit down in front of a microphone or in front of a camera, and I would go through everything just to enjoy the process of talking about it and presenting my angle.

Blogging did a number for me, and thanks for that goes to Tom Hollingsworth. He's the one who said, hey, I think you should get into this. I think you should write down your opinion. I think people would value what you say. I had never really thought about that.

So why did it stop?

Over time, things like that become easier to look past.

It's either too early in the morning or it's too late at night. Or no one's online right now and they're not gonna read it or I don't have time to edit it. Or I didn't do my hair or I'm not wearing the right shirt. There's always an excuse on why I couldn't put down a blog or why I didn't take the time to record a podcast.

So I've been trying to think about ways to make that easier. And what I did was exactly the tool that I'm using right now to write a blog, and it's a blog to announce a tool that's helping me become better at this.

How does the daily call work?

I created a way that every day, I would get a phone call at a certain set time about a number of topics. Being where AI is today is incredible. I have a list of about 500 different news feeds that I run through RSS. I've got numerous trade magazines. I've got eight different social media channels to ingest from. What the system does is synthesize all of that into a number of different top line articles, and I choose one.

And then I interview myself about it. I have the system interview me. It responds. It asks questions, and it acts like a true interviewer. It records my voice, like it's doing right now, and once it's done recording my voice, it creates a transcript of the file. That transcript gets turned into an article written in my voice, written as I would write it.

Where is the line between assisted and generated?

Once the draft is done, I go in and I review it and I approve it. I approve that it sounds like me, that it talks like me, that it's actually my words from the interview that are being used. It doesn't make up sentences for me. It doesn't make up storylines for me. It might help fix some grammatical errors here and there. But it really, honestly, uses my voice and my words to help build actual content that's my content.

Why open it up to other people?

I want to share it with people because what I've done is I've made it easier for me. If I can make it easier for me, then I can definitely make it easier for you. Or if you've never done something like this, this is a great way for you to start blogging and start getting your opinions out there. Instead of you having to come up with everything, this system will prompt you. It will ask you. It will interview you.

It's based on who you are. It understands who you are. It understands what you know. It understands how to comprise the questions to make the most sense for you, and it brings out your voice, so that the article sounds not only like you, but the best version of you.

That's what I'm working on. I think it's phenomenal, and I can't wait to share it with everyone. I'm opening it up for invitation to a select group of people to start.
